Beach baskets from Yemen
The fine and useful beach baskets with leather handles are made by Yemeni women who are trained by the organization All Girls Foundation . Production takes place in local centers where the women are paid for materials and transport.
The All Girls Foundation sells the baskets for $7.50, of which the women get $3 while materials make up $3 and transportation and logistics $1.50. The women are paid immediately and work in good conditions.
Basket production gives the Yemeni women a unique opportunity to work and secure income for the family.
