Cocoa shells are the shells from the raw and roasted cocoa beans. They are delicious on their own, as a cocoa drink with water or milk and they can be mixed with different types of tea. Use 1 tbsp. cocoa shells per cup of boiling water or milk, let it steep for 5-10 min and strain off the skins.
The cocoa shells are produced in eastern Congo (DRC) by a company established in connection with the Virunga National Park and with the help of Belgium's leading chocolate experts.
The area is and has been hard hit by both conflict, poverty and disease with both Ebola and Corona. Here, production contributes to peace and prosperity for the local population, and to sustainability and protection of the unique wildlife, including the rare mountain gorillas.
