The vanilla is purchased from the area around Virunga National Park, which is severely affected by both conflict and extreme poverty. The vanilla is purchased from local farmers and contributes to peace and progress for the local population, and to sustainability and protection of the unique wildlife, including the rare mountain gorillas.
