Stakhovsky Winery is owned and operated by Sergiy Stakhovsky, who was Ukraine's best tennis player and started wine production in 2015. When Russia attacked Ukraine in 2022, he abandoned his tennis career and joined the army, where he has since fought on the front lines and in a crucial special unit.
The vineyards, totaling 22.7 hectares, are located in western Ukraine at the foothills of the Carpathians, facing southwest. Stakhovsky uses French oak barrels and high-tech equipment from Italy and Germany.
Zakarpattia is one of the best wine regions in Ukraine. It is protected from cold fronts by the Carpathian Mountains. The region enjoys mild sunlight and optimal rainfall. The soil is predominantly limestone, rich in minerals and micronutrients, which gives the grapes a unique taste and the wine a very special character.
